Can I use my mask with other treatments?
Yes, we encourage you to try other treatments with and without our mask and see what works for you. A mouthpiece or chinstrap are sometimes used along with our mask or aroma therapy and essential oils. Our database of anonymous users is meant to be populated with this type of data to allow users to compare and experiment and share.
Will your software work without a mask?
Yes, our free app records your snoring and shows you snoring results without a mask. You can track remedies and factors along with your snoring state and sounds. Try it tonight!
I have a stuffy nose. Will this mask work for me?
If you can’t breath through your nose you will only get the vibe effect that cues you to turn on your side when snoring. This is enough for some. You should download and use our app to determine if any remedies for reducing nasal congestion work to reduce snoring and help you breath through your nose. Nettie Pots are really good for this and sometimes help reduce snoring.
Will it wake me up?
Our customizable settings are designed to give you gentle cues to rollover if you are snoring, without waking you. The EPAP functions are designed to operate only while you are snoring so there is no interference with ffalling asleep or staying asleep.
What factors influence my snoring?
This is one of the features of our software we want you to try. Individuals have different factors that influence their snoring. You can track your own factors and compare to others anonymously. Risk factors that may contribute to snoring include:
Being a man
. Men are more likely to snore or have sleep apnea than are women.
. People who are overweight or obese are more likely to snore or have obstructive sleep apnea.
Having a narrow airway
. Some people may have a long soft palate, or large tonsils or adenoids, which can narrow the airway and cause snoring.
. Alcohol relaxes your throat muscles, increasing the risk of snoring.
Having nasal problems
. If you have a structural defect in your airway, such as a deviated septum, or your nose is chronically congested, your risk of snoring is greater.
Having a family history of snoring or obstructive sleep apnea
Does the microphone care if I sleep on one side or the
other since the noise is lower?
The snore detection algorithm works whether you are pointed towards or away from the smart phone. You will notice the sound level is lower and can see your position vs. sound level and when you are snoring in the statistics report.
How much memory is used on my phone?
The files are approximately 100 MB per night. You can delete them from your phone and they still are stored on our server.
Will this help my Sleep Apnea?
Hupnos is not a replacement of a medical doctor’s advice. Although Hupnos uses EPAP to stop snoring, it is not meant to treat Sleep Apnea or replace a CPAP device. If you believe you have symptoms of Sleep Apnea please seek medical advice.
What is snoring?
When we are asleep, the area at the back of the throat sometimes narrows as the muscles relax, and even close off temporarily. The same amount of air passing through this smaller opening more rapidly can cause the tissues surrounding the opening to vibrate, which in turn can cause the sounds of snoring. Different people who snore have different reasons for the narrowing. The narrowing can be in the nose, mouth, or throat.
Can I use my mask for power napping at work or on a plane?
Yes, this is a good extension of the benefits of EPAP. Use the settings page and manually close the valve to increase the expiration pressure. When you are sitting there is no reason to wait until you are snoring for the pressure to increase. Try it and see. It’s close to Pranayama and you get benefits without even sleeping.
What happens if two snorers are in the room?
A second snorer will affect the results you are recording and your expiration pressure may be increased more than you need. You may want to record both individuals separately by moving to a different room to see which sleeper should use your first Hupnos mask before getting a second one.
